Starting a Minecraft Meetup Group

So I love to play Minecraft, or what I commonly call digital legos. After a long week with work and school, it is great to sit down at the computer and mine and place blocks in a digital world. Sometimes I do this alone with just an audio book, sometimes I like to hang and chat with friends, but one of the most exciting things is when you are on a server with other people as each time you log into the server, something in the world changes as the world is ever growing. But the challenge has always been finding a group of people to play with.

In the past I have hounded my friends to play with, and pulled in their friends, but honestly this gets exhausting as it is so much more work something that is suppose to be relaxing. This time I am trying out creating a Meetup group. To start off, it is pretty great and the service takes care of advertising your group to others, reminding them about upcoming events, and general reputation.

The process to setup the group was simple, pay some money, name the group, fill out a description, and create the events. I am interested to learn what it is like to continue to run a Meetup group and hopefully grow the group over time.

I do find it interesting that Meetup ads are pushing on me how running groups could be my new job, I am not sure I see how I would replace my income with this yet. However, even if I did figure out how, it would probably take away from the joy of just having a group of people to play Minecraft.
